CABLE DRILLING
TOOLS |
|
Below are some of the most common
drilling tools for the cable tool drill rig. Click on the
images below. If available online you will go to our store. Call for
pricing and availability for anything not available on line. |
WIRE LINE (ROPE)
SOCKETS
Both the Burns (open side) and the
Prosser(regular) rope sockets come with
a
hardened mandrel (swivel) that the cable is attached into.
The mandrel allows rotation of the cable inside the rope
socket. The Burns socket had a side opening allowing easy
access to the mandrel and cable end without unscrewing the
stem from the rope socket. The Prosser socket requires
removing the stem from the rope socket to access the mandrel
and cable end. Most people use the Prosser for fishing and
the Burns for drilling.

HARDENED
ROPE SOCKET
MANDREL
(SWIVEL)
Located
inside the rope socket, the swivel
is attached to the wire line. Allows
free movement of cable and tools.
Regular inspection and replacement
is recommended as this is the main
load bearing and only moving part on
the drill string.
HARDENED
BUTTON

The wear button is used above
the swivel inside the rope
socket and acts as a bushing
between the swivel and the seat
of the socket.

DRILL STEMS
Fully machined of top quality steel. Drill Stems are
available in lengths from 5' to over 20' in most common
diameters. Drill Stems are normally sized based upon tool
joint size, but upset stems can be special ordered.

CASING
DRIVE HEAD Designed to give
protection to the top of the casing during driving
operation. Male (inside fit) shown left and female (outside
fit) and treaded designs available. Specify casing inside

DRIVE CLAMPS
Drive clamps attach to the wrench flat of the
drill string to drive casing into place (impacting the
casing drive head). Standard light duty drive clamps (70
lbs) come with alloy bolts and long hex nuts and ship with a
wrench. Also available in heavy (200 lbs) and extra heavy
(525 lbs). Replacement bolts available are 1-1/4" x 9" or
1-1/2" x 9" (light pattern), 2" x 12" (heavy pattern) and 3"
x 16" (extra heavy pattern). Length of bolt does not include
head. |
WELD ON TOOL JOINTS
For
replacement of worn out joints. Please specify outside
diameter of drill stem and joint size desired.
|
4- WING MIXER SUB

Attached to the drill string
below the above a carbide button bit, the
mixer sub serves several purposes. The mixer sub replaces
the overall length and weight of a forged steel bit. The
mixer sub also provides stabilization and agitation. Since
the overall diameter is closer to the diameter of the hole
and larger than the stem, the mixer sub provides
stabilization in the hole resulting in a straighter hole.
Agitating the water and cuttings much the same way as a
washing machine fin to keep the cutting suspended allowing
new rock to be drilled instead of re-drilling cuttings. The
standard length is 4' long. Longer lengths are available to
give additional stabilization and weight.

DRILLING JARS
Fabricated
from alloy steel with a 6" stroke. The jars are placed
between the rope socket and the drill stem in the tool
string to provide reverse impact to release stuck tools or
for the operation of certain tools such as a casing
perforator. Jars should never be used to start a hole or
allowed to open on each stroke in non sticking formation.
Typical stroke length is 6" inches. |
JOINT
ADAPTOR SUB
For
connecting of tool with different joint sizes. Specify
required pin size and box joint. Unless otherwise requested,
the wrench flats will be for the A. P. I. pin size. |

pattern, Mother Hubbard and Star patterns. Lengths from
3-1/2' to 8' available. Specify diameter, length and tool
joint when ordering. Dressed to order. |
